About the Bananas

BananasRus is a bunch from central Iowa dedicated to 'Making the world a better place..... one smile at a time'. Even though we will be found appearing at large events, we enjoy meeting and greeting individuals. If we can bring a smile to anyone that doesn't have one, we are fulfilling our banana pledge. BananasRus actually started in the fall of 2004 from it's humble beginnings as a discarded costume in the closet at work. The Banana's first public appearance was the Living History Farm Cross Country Race held in Des Moines Iowa. This race is the Largest Cross Country Race of it's kind. The Banana fit right in with the 3500 other crazy runners.

Running is a lot of work and it was decided that riding a bike as a Banana was a better means of transportation. So the next outing was RAGBRAI (Register's Annual Great Bike Ride Across Iowa) ride in 2005. RAGBRAI is the oldest and largest bike ride of it's kind . RAGBRAI travels the state of Iowa during the last week of July each year. BananasRus has made yearly appearances since 2005. At first, just one Banana, then 2 and this year (2008) four BananasRus members were seen bunching up during the 7 day trip. Obviously, plans are being made to expand our presence and increase the size of our bunch.
